SpreePicky Seifuku (Sailor fuku) Review

I have been looking for a Japanese school uniform for a very long time. I finally stumbled upon Spreepicky's Seifuku and at the price of $20.00 I couldn't go wrong. I found Spreepicky thorough other Asian sellers on Storenvy. I was drawn to this seifuku for several reasons:
  1. The price is very reasonable
  2. "plus sizes"
  3. variety of colors
Spreepicky has a list of clothing measurements located under the image. I had to do some converting because the measurements are in CM. There are two sizes available Medium and Extra Large. I decided to pick the XL.

From Spreepicky's Listing:
Size XL:
shoulder length: 38-39cm/14.96-15.35"
bust: 96-98CM/37.8-35.58"
waist of the top: 96-98CM/37.8-35.58"
top length:56cm/22.05"
waist of the skirt: 80cm/31.5"
skirt length: 39cm/15.35"

I knew the XL would be pushing it for me because I reached the max measurement according to Spreepicky's chart. For the price I decided to take the chance.

My current measurements:
Bust: 37"
Waist: 31 1/2"
Hips: 40"

I placed my order on the March 27th 2014. It was super easy because it was done through storenvy and I used PayPal. Shipping was free. I was provided with a tracking number ( which I stalked everyday!) My seifuku arrived on April 8th 2014. it took 12 days after I ordered to get here, which I thought was very good!

The seifuku came in a yellow envelope (shown above) and inside the seifuku was placed nicely in a Spreepicky bag. I have to say the packaging was very well done. I'm happy that it was not just thrown into an envelope.

The seifuku was folded very nicely and had a hand written letter as well as a free gift with it. I will say now SPREEPICKY DID NOT PROVIDE THIS TO ME. I PURCHASED IT MYSELF WITH MY OWN MONEY. I thought the hand written letter was a lovely gesture and it made me feel like they cared a lot about my purchase :)  Spreepicky provides a free gift with all orders which I think is very sweet. I received a hair tie as my free gift. I think it is very cute!

Now to the seifuku itself! I have to say first ordering I knew not to expect to much; I have ordered many clothing items from Asia before and some where not the best quality. The quality of this seifuku is alright. I was happy to see it was true to the color on the website. I wasn't expecting it to be fabulous for the price I paid for it.  The bow is actually the best out of all the parts of the seifuku in my opinion! its sturdy and well sew together. The bow is detachable. It has a safety pin in it and you can place it on the top yourself, which I like because based on your bust you can place it where it will look flattering!

The skirt and bow are made of the same material, which I wasn't too crazy about. The material works great for the bow but not for the skirt. The material makes the skirt very light and a bit see through. The material of the skirt is a little rough but it is not that rough to irritate skin. Its similar to a tutu type of material without the itch. ( I hope this description is kind of clear! >.< )

I would suggest wearing short or a short and tights combination when wearing this. The zipper is in the back and is hidden, which is very nice.Due to me reaching the max measurements of the skirt when putting on I opened some of the seam by the zipper. But it is an easy fix! Other than the sheerness, it is a well constructed skirt.
The top is made of another material which is hard to pinpoint. The best way I can describe it would be that it is similar to the fabric used to make dance leotards; Its stretchy but form fitting. The navy color on the cuffs and collar are made of the same material as the skirt and bow. The triangle of white fabric in the middle is sewn on both sides. I know that some seifukus have a this part detectible but this one does not.I would also advise wearing a cami underneath the top.

The sleeves fit be a bit close as well as the top itself. I'm not too crazy about the fabric the top is made out of. It gets a little hot. So I wouldn't say this is the best choice for dancing in. The sewing of the top is well done and sturdy. There a few loose threads  here and there but that's okay.

Review Overview:

The seifuku is perfect for a quick cosplay. You are getting what you pay for which is fair. I would say if you are smaller than me ( I am about a size large) you should be good to fit into this without a problem. I think the Medium is probably a small and the XL is most likely a Medium/ small-Large. I would probably buy from Spreepicky again, maybe a sweater or accessories.
